2009/05/16.RD3636. On Saturday, 16th May, 2009, the Welsh Highland Railway ran some special trains for the benefit of supporters that had assisted the restoration of the railway with financial donations. The trains ran all the way through to the outskirts of Portmadog, but had to stop short of the Cambrian Crossing at the site of the 2nd Portmadoc New Station. As there are no run-round facilities at this point, Funkey B-B diesel VALE OF FFESTINIOG was attached to the rear of the trains to haul them back as far as the passing loop at Hafod y Llyn where the steam locomotive, ex South African Railways NGG16 class 2-6-2 + 2-6-2 Beyer-Garratt No.143, was able to be re-attached to the front.
