02) Nene Valley Railway.

I have been involved with the Nene Valley, on and off, for many years. More off, than on, though! As I have lots of pictures taken there during working and other visits, I felt that it was high time I established a collection on here. So, to start off, some pictures taken today, with others from earlier times to follow in due course.

As is now my usual custom, I shall put new additions in the 'Stop Press!' collection in the 1st Gallery for starters.

1977/09.R5802.  Looking east towards Peterborough on the Nene Valley Railway at Wansford.  The line was built by the London and Birmingham Railway as a branch off their main line at Blisworth in 1847, so, not only was it the first railway to reach Peterborough, it was also one of the world’s first branch lines.  The signal box is of London & North Western Railway origin and the road crossed by the level crossing used to be the main Great North Road.  Compare this picture with the similar shot (2009/08/27.RD3879) taken 32 years later.   September, 1977.
